The Eselspatt connects the towns of Osnabrück and Tecklenburg and leads along a beautiful route through the Teutoburg Forest. Even in the Middle Ages, donkeys laden with trade goods are said to have been driven here towards the Osnabrück market. The donkey trail can be started right there, at the historic town hall of the Hasestadt. If you don't fancy a city walk of around four kilometres, you should start at the starting point suggested on the map.
Despite a fairly high proportion of tarmac paths, the route is really nice to walk. Unfortunately, the signposting leaves something to be desired, which is why GPS navigation is a great advantage.
