Neuzelle: Hanna Bieber Boehm Denkmal

Picturesque walk in the footsteps of women's rights activist Hanna Bieber Böhm This beautiful walk starts at Neuzelle Monastery and leads up the Priorsberg on beautiful forest paths. Here you will find the inconspicuous monument to one of the most important women's rights activists of her time: Hanna Bieber Böhm (1851 - 1910) campaigned for the equality and employment of women, for the protection of children and young people and for the improvement of social conditions for young women. In 1902, she bought a residential house on the Priorsberg for the Youth Protection Association, which was used as a winegrower's house during the time of the monastery and is now used as a boarding school for pupils at the Rahnschulen. She set up a youth recreation centre for "pale, weak girls", which was also open to mothers with children and older women. The establishment of a housekeeping and horticultural school gave the women a better start to an independent professional life after their return to Berlin. In gratitude and in honour of her tireless work, a monument was erected to her on the Priorsberg in Neuzelle after her death. The inscription on the grave reads "She lived for others".
