Lake Schrecksee

Panoramic hike in the Allgäu Alps, Bavaria Although the trail to Schrecksee is not necessarily one of the most demanding tours in the Allgäu, a certain level of fitness is required for the 16 kilometres. Almost 1,200 metres in altitude have to be conquered in alpine terrain - good footwear is just as important as surefootedness. At higher altitudes, snow can be expected until early summer. This charming hike is not short of picturesque landscapes and views. The highlight is of course the idyllic Schrecksee lake, which probably got its name because of its ice-cold water: glistening, turquoise, crystal clear! The only Alpine lake with a real island, it is also known as the most beautiful lake in the Allgäu. The route starts near Bad Hindelang at the "Auf der Höh" car park at the southern exit of Hinterstein. A fee must be paid for car parking. Payment is possible in cash or by card.
