Popular circular route in the Allgäu High Alps nature reserve, Bavaria. The Schrecksee, idyllically situated at 1813 metres above sea level, is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Allgäu Alps - in 2016, the lake was even named the "most beautiful mountain lake in the Alps" by Bergwelten magazine. Due to its location in the nature reserve, activities such as camping, barbecuing and lighting fires are prohibited at Schrecksee. The hike starts at the Auele bus stop and leads steadily uphill from there to the beautiful lake. After circling the lake, the returns along the same route.
