This challenging high-altitude hike is a real gem in the Wetterstein Mountains and the seventh stage of the famous "Spitzenwanderweg" trail. The route connects the historic Schachen plateau with the skiing and hiking paradise at Kreuzeck. The trail leads from the Schachenhaus (1,856 m) steeply down into the unspoilt Reintal valley, the heart of the nature reserve. After crossing the valley floor, there is a challenging climb through the Mitterklamm and Hinterklamm gorges up to the Kreuzeckhütte (1,652 m). The backdrop is dominated by the striking Wetterstein main ridge and the Zugspitze. The tour requires very good physical condition and sure-footedness.
