Point-to-point
Shortened version of the Immenstadt mountain marathon. The finish line is the middle station of the Mittag mountain railway. The route leads from Immenstadt (Mittag cable car valley station) via the ridge path of the Nagelfluhkette to the Hochgrat and back to the middle station of the cable car. Theoretically, six peaks are climbed along the way. However, the route does not lead directly over all of them (Stuiben is left out). The peaks are: Stuiben (1,749m), Sederer (1,737m), Buralkopf (1,772m), Gündelskopf (1,748m), Rindalphorn (1,822m) and Hochgrat (1,832m). Some sections have an average gradient of up to 25.5% (Rindalphorn ascent). A trained runner will need around 5 hours to complete the route. If you don't like running downhill, you should allow half an hour more. It is advisable to save the GPS track, as the route is not always signposted. The scenery along the route is marvellous. Measured against this, it is the most beautiful mountain marathon in Germany, even one of the most beautiful in the German-speaking world. The turning point is at the Hochgratbahn mountain station (finish of the Hochgrat mountain run). Despite the double route, the run is highly recommended. Unlike the usual mountain marathons, the ascent begins directly after the start, which makes the run challenging throughout. You also run in the wilderness, mostly on small trails. There is no snow or scree. The run is more challenging than a normal mountain marathon. This is not only due to the gradient, but also to the nature of the paths. The ridge is characterised by roots, stones and steps throughout. You always need your hands to climb. Surefootedness is absolutely essential.
