Popular circular hike in the Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park, Bavaria.
One of the most charming hikes in the Rötz area begins at the Hillstett hiking car park. You cross the picturesque river valley with its dark forests that reach right up to the banks of the Schwarzach. Crossing the Schwarzach bridge at the Alte Wutzschleife, where you can observe the strong current and rapids of the Schwarzach, you reach the north side of the Eixendorf reservoir. Here, hikers on the trail experience marvellous views, beautiful landscapes of rugged rocks reaching down to the water and flower-filled meadows. After the village of Eixendorf, you have the option of shortening the 15-kilometre trail by 2 kilometres over the Eixendorf bridge. The long loop continues to the northern part of the Eixendorf reservoir and then partly follows the Schwarzachtal cycle path back south towards Gütenland. On the south side of the lake, the hiking trail now follows a wonderful cycle and hiking path on the former railway line towards Hillstett. Along the way you will not only find beautiful nature, but also recommendable restaurants and the Upper Palatinate Museum of Crafts with its various buildings.
Highlights of the hike:
- Upper Palatinate Crafts Museum
- Views of the Eixendorf reservoir
- Museum locomotive
