Böhmerwald-Runde: Mauth - Haidmühle - Strazny

A beautiful, varied and scenic cycle tour through the Bavarian Forest and the Bohemian Forest National Park. Overall, a somewhat more challenging and hilly route. However, with gears suitable for mountain biking, all climbs are easily manageable. Route: From Mauth, take the little-used country road for 1 km downhill to Annathalmühle. From here, the route climbs steadily to Mitterfirmiansreut, with just under 300 metres of ascent to contend with. Now continue via Vorderfirmiansreut to Philippsreut. You cross the B12 and reach Haidmühle via Bischofsreut. There is usually very little motorised traffic on this route too. In Haidmühle, turn left and cycle to the Nove Udoli border crossing. From here, follow the cycle path without motorised traffic along the Cold Vltava to Stozec (Tusset). In Stozec, turn left at the crossroads and continue uphill on cycle route 33 to Ceske Zleby. Continue on the country road to Hliniste. Now 2 km on the dual carriageway to Strazny (you can use the wide hard shoulder). Continue through the centre of Strazny, then turn right onto cycle path 1023 and continue along the car-free path through beautiful, quiet forests and felt landscapes to Knizecy Plane. All that remains of the former village is the cemetery. The path now leads across meadows up to Bucina (Buchwald). Here you cross the border again and cycle along the national park cycle path to Finsterau. Turn right there, past the museum village down to the Reschbach stream. Then along the stream back to Mauth.
