The Feldsee, also called Feldbergsee, is located east of Freiburg im Breisgau at the foot of the Feldberg at 1110 m above sea level. M. All sides of the cirque lake, known as the dark eye, can be discovered via the circular route. Since it is quite high, the lake freezes completely in winter. The almost black, cold water of the Feldsee is low in nutrients and rich in oxygen, and home to unique, specialized flora and fauna. A protective forest of beech, fir, spruce and sycamore grows around the lake - avalanches only allow tree species with elastic wood to grow on the Karwand. Swimming in the lake is prohibited, and the ducks must not be fed, as duck droppings and leftover bread can settle in the lake and affect the plants.
