Sand - Badener Höhe

Picturesque circular hiking trail in the Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg. Good footwear is required for the ascent from Herrenwieser See to Badener Höhe. It starts at the Sand Chapel car park. At the Kurhaus, two paths lead to the east. Taking the right one, it goes through beautiful forest past the sand lake. This can be reached via a little trail. Continue past the town of Herrenwies, recognizable by the striking St. Antonius Church. The Promenandenweg is now a slight ascent to Herrenwieser See, one of the few remaining cirque lakes in the Black Forest. After this, the short but strong ascent begins. First, the two-lake view is reached: the Herrenwieser just visited in the foreground; in the distance the mighty dam. Passing the Bussemer-Gestenkstein, the founder of this high-altitude trail, the route reaches the Badener Höhe with the impressive, 30-metre-high Friedrichsturm. The path marked in red leads to the Naturfreundehaus Badenerhöhe and from there back to the starting point. The route can be walked in either direction.
