The route initially runs along the Emscher and then changes to the Dortmund-Ems Canal via a beautiful forest passage.

Annual cycling event near Dortmund. This 35-kilometre route was the circuit of the "WWBT-Kurbel Dortmund" cycling event in 2020. Starting in Dortmund-Aplerbeck, the route led into the Aplerbeck forest, which is characterised by climbs and steep ramps. The rest of the event route headed towards Schwerte, crossed the Ruhr and included a climb to Rheinen before reaching the finish at the starting point.

Here the route follows a well-developed railway line (Rheinischer Esel) via Witten to Do-Löttringhausen.
