Challenging section of route in the Ammergebirge nature reserve, Bavaria The second stage of the Himmelsstürmer route leads over the Kenzelsattel and Niederstraußbergsattel to the Tegelberghaus. Over the lonely cirques of the Halblech Valley and over the Bleckenau in the footsteps of Emperor Maximilian, you return to civilization. Passing the magnificent royal Bavarian fairytale castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, you reach Schwangau and Füssen. 3-4 day ridge hike. Most of the route leads over the ridge and is a real pleasure in fine weather. Start at Füssen Tegelbergbahn. 1st hut Kenzenhütte (great hut food, room, bathroom) 2nd hut Brunnenkopfaus 3rd hut Alfred Schuster Haus (rustic hut, with very modest washing facilities). Destination Oberammergau. Please note that the return journey to Füssen by public transport is not easy. During the school holidays in Bavaria, the buses are even less frequent.
