Best backpacking trails in Naturschutzgebiet Geigelstein

The panoramic circular hike begins in Sachrang at the Geigelstein car park and leads along the Ackerwaldweg into the Geigelstein nature reserve to the Geigelstein itself, which lies at an altitude of 1808 metres. The view from the summit cross extends over Lake Chiemsee in the north to the rugged peaks of the Kaiser Mountains in the south. The ascent is long and requires surefootedness.

Multi-day hike from Innerwald in Chiemgau. This hike is easier to reach by car than by public transport. However, the marvellous views from the Schreck-Alm are well worth the effort.

The stage from the Kampenwand to the Priener Hütte has wonderful views and beautiful alpine pastures. A short stretch, the ascent to the Weitlahnerkopf, is secured with a wire rope and requires sure-footedness. The relatively short stage allows a detour to the Geigelstein, which is rewarded by the wonderful panorama of the Kaiser Mountains. From the Priener Hütte via Sachrang to the Spitzsteinhaus it is a comfortable, not too long stage. But you have the opportunity to look at the Peter Müller Museum in Sachrang. From Sachrang it goes via the Obermoosalm and the Mesneralm partly over meadows, partly through forest uphill to the Spitzsteinhaus, which is already on Austrian territory.
