The Jungfernsee was once used by the lords of Ulmen Castle as a fishing lake until it silted up. After the former maar was used for peat cutting for a while, it was decided to flood the area again in 1942. Today, the Jungfernweiher is a nature reserve together with the Ulmener Maar.
