Beautiful circular hiking trail in the Hees forest near Xanten, North Rhine-Westphalia In the south of Xanten, this hiking trail runs through the Hees forest, taking you along shady forest paths and covering a few metres in altitude. This route starts near the Birten amphitheatre in Birten, which is located on the old Rhine lake. The path leads into the Hees forest. On the way, you pass St Joseph's Hospital. The hike is named after some of the hills it passes along the way, including the Heesberg and the Fürstenberg. They are only 75 metres high, so you don't have to worry about the difference in altitude.

Starting point at the Bislich ferry, where you can also park your car. A footpath initially leads along the Rhine, but then ends at a fence. However, you can bypass the electric fence via the embankment and continue walking. The path can be recognised as a narrow trail. Further fences follow, which always go right up to the embankment, but you can avoid them by crossing the large stones.
