Best historic site trails in Grassau

Popular and scenic circular hiking trail near Grassau, Bavaria. This relatively easy circular trail leads up to the Chiemgauer Hochplatte (1,583 m) on beautiful paths. This route follows Stage 2 of the SalzAlpenSteig, climbing from Grassau to the Brachtalm on a noticeably more demanding day than the opening stage. From the valley, it rises through forest and alpine pasture into the Chiemgau Alps, passing Marquartstein Castle and the Schnappenkirche and repeatedly opening views back toward Lake Chiemsee, giving the route a clear sense of leaving the gentler foothills behind for more sustained mountain terrain. The trail starts at the Salt and Moor Museum between Rottau and Grassau and leads once around the Kendlmühlfilzen. You mostly walk along the old railway embankment of the peat railway. The hike is particularly recommended in spring when the marsh marigolds are in bloom and there is still snow on the surrounding mountains.
