Best backpacking trails in Ettal

After the previous long stage, this one from Linderhof to Kenzenhütte is now rather short and invites you to linger, rest and unwind. Along the Sägertalbach it goes steadily uphill to the Bäckenalm. From there it gets steep and you climb the 1,536m high Bäckenalmsattel. On the west side, the path leads downhill over alpine pastures to the Kenzenhütte. This route follows stage 9 of the Maximiliansweg, a long-distance trail through Germany and Austria, beginning at Schloss Linderhof and ending at the Hörnlehütte. The path departs from the Linderhof palace grounds and climbs via long switchbacks through the forests and krummholz zones of the Pürschling mountain. It descends along the Pürschlingweg past the Josephsflecken chapel and the Schleifmühlenklamm gorge into Unterammergau before making a final ascent to the Hörnle ridge. Overnight...
