From Wysburg via Ziemestal Bridge

This spectacular route leads through the deeply incised Sormitz Valley in the Slate Mountains and combines archaeological history with industrial architecture. The trail opens up the ruins of the former robber baron's castle of Wysburg and leads to one of the most impressive technical monuments in Germany: the Ziemestal Bridge. The route follows a challenging mixture of narrow forest paths, steep climbs and gravelled paths along the former railway line. A central highlight is the view of the 32 metre high and 115 metre long viaduct, which was built without welding using only rivets and now stands almost lost in the dense forest. In the dense spruce and beech forests, black woodpeckers, fire salamanders and, with luck, even mouflons can be observed. The route requires a good level of fitness and sturdy footwear due to the metres in altitude and the sometimes path-like sections.
