The Königshain mountains are definitely worth a visit. Rock formations such as the Firstenstein, the Hochstein and the Totenstein rise out of the earth and are surrounded by mixed forest. Originally there were around 100 large rock towers, but many were quarried to be used as the famous Königshain granite in buildings such as the Reichstag and the beacon on Cape Arkona. Over time, the quarries created by granite mining have filled with water, creating unique landscape features such as the Firsten quarry, the Hamann quarry and the Thaden quarry.
