Entlang der Parthe - Vom Großbothen nach Naunhof

Interesting, varied hiking route near Grimma, Saxony. The history of the city of Leipzig began with the founding of a Slavic settlement on both banks of the Parthe around the year 900. The confluence of the Weißer Elster, Pleiße and Parthe rivers forms the Leipzig water node. Experts also refer to it as an inland delta. Leipzig was therefore "built very close to the water" and the people of Leipzig often got their feet wet. As the city developed, many canals, millraces, raft ditches and flood beds were created. Industrialisation turned the waterways into cesspools. Stinking watercourses were built over and filled in. At the beginning of the 1980s, resistance to the overexploitation of nature began to stir. In the 1990s, the restoration of watercourses began. Even 30 years later, the water quality of Leipzig's waterways is still extremely poor. How is the Parthe doing today? The first section along the Parthe runs from the Parthen spring to Naunhof. The Parthe is the result of the merger of the Gossenbach and Lehnbach streams. However, the source is the popular excursion destination Gossenborn in Glastener Forst. On the way to Naunhof, the Parthe flows through Klein- and Großbardau, past Grimma, through Grethen, Pomßen and Lindhardt. The hike begins in Großbothen on the Leipzig-Döbeln railway line. The RE50 can be used to get there and back. The fire brigade museum in Grethen and the tower clock museum in Naunhof are worth a visit on the route from Gossenborn to Naunhof.
