Beautiful and short excursion in the Harz Mountains, Saxony-Anhalt.
The short hike starts directly at the car park at the "Gartenhaus". There are toilets and a restaurant here, so you can stop for a bite to eat after visiting the castle. There is also a bus stop ("Gartenhaus") nearby for travelling to and from the castle by public transport.
Falkenstein Castle is the only castle in the Harz Mountains and is particularly famous because Eike von Repgow wrote the Sachsenspiegel, the first German law book, here in the 13th century.
From the castle, you can enjoy a fantastic 360-degree panoramic view of the Selke valley and the surrounding area.
