Hartfüßler Trail 30km

This physically demanding route follows the course of the legendary Hartfüßler Trail, diving deep into the industrial history of the Saarland. The path explores the extensive Saarkohlenwald forest north of Saarbrücken, following a diverse mixture of narrow single trails, steep slag heap climbs, and winding forest paths. A central highlight is ascending the prominent mining heaps, such as Halde Lydia, which offer spectacular 360-degree views across the Saarland and into France. In the near-natural "primeval forests" on the outskirts of the city, black woodpeckers, roe deer, and various beetle species can be brilliantly observed, while the artificial heap landscapes are home to pioneer plants and rare insects. Due to its distance and sharp elevation gains, the route is a challenge that requires stamina and surefootedness.
