Kues – Bernkastel Waterfalls – Landshut Castle

This scenic circuit combines historic timber-framed architecture, quiet forest paths, and vineyard views above Bernkastel-Kues along the Mosel River. Starting near the water, the path leads through romantic town alleys before ascending into shaded woodland along the Tiefenbach stream toward a small waterfall. Higher up, the route passes the historic Tinkelkapelle chapel and arrives at the iconic ruins of Landshut Castle. Built in the thirteenth century on the site of an earlier fourth-century Roman fort, the castle offers sweeping views across steep wine slopes. Because the descent past the castle features steep switchbacks, shoes with good traction help ensure safe footing.
