Castles - Geierlay Suspension Bridge - Balduin Castle Ruins

This spectacular and varied circular walk combines one of the most modern highlights of the Hunsrück with medieval history. The trail covers the area between the town of Kastellaun and the village of Mörsdorf and runs along a mixture of alpine paths, dense forest trails and open plateaus. A central highlight is the crossing of the Geierlay suspension bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in Europe, which swings 100 metres above the Mörsdorf stream valley. Another highlight is the imposing Balduinseck castle ruins, which proudly tower over the valley like a "mantle castle". Due to the distance and the sometimes steep climbs, the route requires a good level of fitness and a head for heights for the bridge.
