The Holzlandweg trail, marked throughout with a red H, runs for 37 kilometres through the Palatinate Forest. Dense forests, idyllic stream valleys such as the Schwarzbachtal, the gigantic Grauhansenfelsen and other imposing rock formations as well as, of course, the pretty villages along the route provide plenty of variety when hiking. Hikers interested in history will enjoy spending time at Heidelsburg Castle, one of the oldest Roman-Celtic fortifications in the Palatinate. This tour should ideally be split over several days with overnight stays at the campsites along the way.
