The railway station in Neustadt an der Weinstraße is the starting point for this hike. The route then leads in a westerly direction into the Palatinate Forest, where it goes over the Hohe Loog to the Kalmit and Homberg. At the start, the route climbs quite a way up to the Kalmit.
