Heidehimmel Volkesfeld

The Traumpfad Heidehimmel Volkesfeld is a certified premium hiking trail. Hikers are enchanted by healing waters and juniper heaths, lush flowering meadows, fragrant heaths, tranquil forests and stunning panoramic views. Rustic huts tempt you to take a break, while the "Sauerbrunnen" healing spring provides refreshment. The trail begins at the car park at the "Sauerbrunnen" healing spring on the L 83 in Nettetal. An access road leads to the starting point at the "Sauerbrunnen" healing spring. Rustic wooden steps and a soft forest path provide the first view of the Nettetal valley and lead on to Volkesfeld. This is where the ascent to the impressive Riethelkreuz, visible from afar, begins with its fabulous panoramic view - embedded in savoury juniper heath. The trail leisurely follows the ridge and passes the nearby new housing estate in a wide arc on meadow paths that lead around the village. After a short forest passage and open meadows, another marvellous panorama opens up as you cross the K 63. Leaving Volkesfeld behind you, the path leads along a soft field path to a rest area. Soon a narrow path climbs the hill of the Waberner Heide and presents unspoilt juniper, shining gorse and gnarled pines. With the best views in almost all directions, the Waberner Wacholderhütte invites you to linger. Continuing through the heathland, the trail enters the forest to the Falkleyblick rock spur with a unique view of the deep Nettetal valley. On the following forest and meadow passages, with a bit of luck, wild camera sheep can be observed. A short detour (500 metres in total) leads to the Noorkopf with a 270° view. Back on the path, it leads downhill along the edge of the field to the Florianshütte with a beautiful view of the Nettetal valley. In the forest, the trail takes wide loops down into the valley. At the end of the tour, the iron-rich water of the "Sauerbrunnen" healing spring invites you to enjoy a healthy refreshment before the trail ends at the hikers' car park.
