Ahrtal - Sahrbachtal - Kesselingertal

Note: The total ascent recorded with a barometric altimeter (Ciclomaster CM434) on this route was 1590 metres. The route starts in Ahrweiler in the Ahr valley. It initially follows the tarmac cycle path along the Ahr and the associated railway line. It leaves the cycle path in Rech and follows the main road to Altenahr, a very touristy village. Please note that the main road to Altenahr can be very busy at weekends. From Altenahr, the route follows the cycle path along the Ahr again, but this part of the cycle path is smaller and has more bends (watch out for tourists walking on the cycle path on the campsite side). In Kreuzberg, the path leaves the cycle path (and also the Ahr valley) and leads into the Sahrbach valley. The first ascent leads out of the Sahrbach valley towards Krälingen with 5 hairpin bends. The descent to Kirchsahr is beautiful. The following ascent leads from Binzenbach in the direction of Plittersdorf (4 hairpin bends). The descent to Liers involves 6 hairpin bends. The route then follows the River Ahr again via the cycle path along the river, the cycle path is now quite wide and very well tarmaced. After Dümpelfeld, the route follows the main road for one kilometre. Then turn left and begin the long ascent (6.5 kilometres) via Lückenbach along a very quiet road to Reifferscheid. The gradients reach a maximum of 10%. Via Rodder, the route leads to Adenau, a beautiful little town that can get very busy during racing events at the neighbouring Nürburgring. A 5.5 kilometre climb takes you to Hochacht (the last hundred metres with a gradient of 12%), followed by a 10 kilometre descent to Kesseling. This is followed by two moderate climbs and then the final 8 kilometre descent to Ahrweiler.
