7 Burgentour - Pfälzer Wald/Nordvogesen

Cross-border hike between the Palatinate and Alsace, Rhineland-Palatinate. This popular hiking trail on the German-French border in Dahner Felsenland leads to 7 castles. These are evidence of the Middle Ages from the 12th century. The landscape offers picturesque views over the hilly landscape of the Palatinate Forest. You start on the German side in Schönau. There are several car parks there and you can also arrive by bus. The route first takes you past Brackenberg and Sindelsberg to Wegelnburg, over to Hohenburg (on the French side), on to Löwenstein and along the rocky path to Fleckenstein. Finally, you cross the Sûre in the valley before slowly climbing up to Froensburg Castle. After enjoying the view here too, the trail continues past the gypsy rock to Wasigenstein. Shortly before Blumenstein, you reach the German Palatinate side again. With some ascents, the route is very demanding in places. The hiking trails are mostly marked and are dominated by narrow paths through pine forests past imposing red sandstone cliffs.
