The tour starts from Bad Honnef and climbs the symbolic Drachenfels with its beautiful view over the Rhine. Here, as well as a little further downhill at the Milchhäuschen, there are refreshment stops.
The Ofenkaulen are a disused mining area where pyritic ash tuff blocks used to be quarried. This type of stone was used in ovens. Formerly accessible, the caves are now closed off to protect the bats that live here.
The best place to start the hike is from Rhöndorf railway station. There is also a car park nearby.
