The Höntrop-Eppendorf mining trail is one of the shortest themed trails in the Ruhr region. It runs as a circular route through Wattenscheid, taking in former colliery sites, spoil tips and railways. Shafts I and II in the south-west on the Elchweg and on the Spelbergs Busch road were the first to be built. Shafts III and IV reached much deeper and were built in the 1860s and 1870s.
