This small circular route through the Buchholzer Wald nature reserve is ideal for a short walk in between. The start is in Wickrathhahn, northeast of Mönchengladbach, near the local Waldstadion. Right at the beginning you reach this wonderfully untouched, unique forest, in which 200-year-old beech and hornbeam trees can be admired. With a bit of luck you can also spot different species of birds, such as middle, green and black woodpeckers, many nuthatches, stock doves, owls and buzzards. Anyone who thinks they are only walking past beech trees will be amazed at how diverse and beautiful this natural gem of a mixed deciduous forest is. You also walk along ash, birch and alder groups as well as hornbeam, wild cherry, sycamore maple, black pine and pedunculate oak. Arriving at the Haselbusch, it is only a few steps back to the starting point.
