Rosengarten Half Marathon X-Treme 400

Endurance and physical fitness take centre stage on this hilly circular route through the Harburg mountains. The route follows the official "X-Treme" route of the local Rosengartenlauf and leads over a series of short but crisp ascents and descents, which add up to a considerable amount of metres in altitude by northern German standards. A varied landscape of dense mixed forests, heathland and sandy sections, which are typical of the terminal moraine landscape formed during the last ice age can be expected. A striking landmark along the way is the Paul Roth Stone, a memorial stone with a view over the undulating canopy of the forest. Historically, this area served as an important source of wood and charcoal for the nearby city of Hamburg and is now a protected recreational area. The terrain remains technically straightforward and consists of well-marked forest paths, but the constant change in altitude provides an intense workout for hikers and trail runners alike.
