MTB-Tour: Deister-Runde ab Springe

The start of the Walterbachtrail near Nienstedt is not so easy to find. When you come out of the forest before the village of Nienstedt, you pass a house on the left after about 150 metres. After the house, it goes downhill a little and there are pastures/meadows to the left and right before it goes uphill again into the village. Practically in the hollow, keep left. You will see gates on the left and right that belong to pastures and a fish pond on the right (you cannot see the ponds). Take the left-hand gate as a guide and walk straight ahead along the fence. At the point where you might think the fences are connected is the entrance to an approx. 80cm wide path, which you wouldn't expect because it is quite overgrown with nettles and other plants (at least in the summer months). After about 50 metres, the path ends and you are on the trail. At Feggendorf there is a trail above the houses (just go straight on from the forest track into the trail). After a while, this trail leads right into the forest and ends after crossing a wooden bridge. Do not use the dirt track at the edge of the forest, as it ends in a meadow. If you do get lost, you can get back onto the trail on the left from a high seat in the meadow through the bushes before the bridge. This trail ends on a gravelled forest path and after a while leads out of the forest in a left-hand bend. Half-left of this bend, another trail leads through the forest towards the air-raid warning centre (right in front of the gate). There are some fallen trees on this trail, the treetops directly on the trail, so you have to climb and carry. At one point, a stream "meanders" and you can't really judge how "firm" the ground is. You can stop for refreshments halfway along the trail at the Teufelsbrücke forest restaurant, which you pass.
