The route "Around Rüdesheim on the Rhine" enchants with magnificent views of the Rhine Valley. The trail, which is one of the youth hiking trails organised by the German Hiking Youth, starts at Rüdesheim Youth Hostel. It follows an old vineyard path towards the Rüdesheim pedestrian zone and on to the cable car at the Niederwalddenkmal. The Niederwald Monument commemorates the reunification of the German Reich after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871 and offers a marvellous view of the Rhine and the Nahe valley.
Several other attractions await behind the monument: The eagle observatory with 15 different species of birds of prey, the Niederwald hunting lodge and the petting zoo. If you want to end the day in a cosy atmosphere, take the chairlift back to Assmannshausen and stop off at one of the rustic wine taverns. Alternatively, it goes back down back down into the valley via the Höllenberg and enjoy the view of the Rhine from a bench.
