Panoramic hike in the Spessart
The hike begins in the small town of Schlüchtern at the railway station. Here you first walk through the picturesque town centre with its pretty alleyways lined with half-timbered houses. However, the hike takes its name from the castles along the way. The first castle you pass is called Brandstein. It is inhabited, but the museum can be visited by prior arrangement. This is followed by the ruins of Steckelberg dating from the 14th century. The controversial humanist and poet Ullrich von Hutten was born here. The castle can only be visited from the outside. The third in the group is the Schwarzenfels ruin, which is also privately owned.
