Varied hike in the Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus Geopark.
The name already gives it away - the hike is a journey into the more than 2500 years of mining here in the Lahn-Dill region. The "Fortuna" mine was closed in the 1980s. Today, a lot can be learned about the history of the ore district and the realities of the work. There is a mining museum on the colliery site and there are still hoisting machines that can be seen in operation.
The walk begins with the realities of physical labour during the mining process. It ends in Braunfels with the fruits of this hard labour, which the princes have enjoyed since the Middle Ages. Braunfels Castle was built for them high above the town and is still privately owned by the family today. There are cafés and restaurants in Braunfels where you can stop for a bite to eat.
The tour starts in the beautiful old town centre of Wetzlar. The town can also be reached by train and there is a bus from "Wetzlar" station to the "Kornmarkt" bus stop.
