Altkönig Circular Route from Schardtwald

This varied circular route leads through the peaceful woods of the Taunus Nature Park up to the summit of the Altkönig near Königstein im Taunus. From the starting point at Schardtwald, forest paths wind their way up the mountain slopes beneath shady beech and conifer trees. On the summit plateau, walkers come across the impressive ring walls built by Celtic settlers during the Iron Age. The extensive quartzite boulder fields near the summit offer sweeping views across the Rhine-Main region. Sturdy walking boots with a good tread make it easier to walk over loose stones and root-strewn paths on the upper section of the route.
