Sanssouci Park: fountain, Sicilian garden and palace

Varied walk in Sanssouci Park, Potsdam On this route you can enjoy the wonderful view of parts of the park and the historic buildings of the famous Sanssouci Palace. The route is barrier-free and is categorised as difficulty level 2-3. It consists of tarmac paths, fine gravel, cobblestones and in some places finer sand and small cobblestones. In some places there are gradients of more than 7%. The roadway from "Am Grünen Gitter" is asphalted and is used by motorised vehicles and cyclists; it is recommended to use the paved pavement on the right in the direction of travel. Alternatively, the path through the Marlygarten can be used, but this is only recommended in dry weather. The path leading to the terraces of the castle is asphalted; however, it is uneven. After passing the Schinkel Bridge, the paths consist of fine gravel. Caution is advised at the Ökonomieweg/Am Grünen Gitter junction - there is a lot of traffic here and in the summer months a very quiet electric vehicle is on the move. Along the Sicilian Garden and in the direction of the Neue Kammern Palace as well as from the Musenrondell to the visitor centre, there are sections with a gradient of more than 7% and sandy, partly small paved surfaces - the help of an accompanying person is recommended here. This section can also be avoided by travelling back to Luisenplatz and from there by bus 695 to the Sanssouci Palace stop. To get to the tour of Kammern Palace, you can ring a bell to make yourself heard. Towards the visitor centre and Sanssouci Palace, the path is partly paved and uneven and has a gradient of more than 7%. Barrier-free WCs are available at the Affengang/Am Grünen Gitter junction and at the Historic Mill at the information point. There is also an accessible restaurant there. Seating is available at the Affengang/Am Grünen Gitter crossroads, at the Great Fountain, in the direction of the New Chambers, at the Sicilian Garden and at the Visitor Centre at the Historic Mill. Parking is available in the Luisenplatz underground car park. A nearby bus and tram stop is "Luisenplatz Nord / Park Sanssouci". From there, you can cross the avenue to the "Grünes Gitter" entrance - if you use a wheelchair, walking frame or other mobility equipment, you should choose the centre gate as your entrance. There is a barrier-free bus stop (bus 695) at the visitor centre with a connection to Potsdam Central Station. Folding wheelchairs can be borrowed from the visitor centre. People with impaired vision can use a long cane to find their way along the edges of the path up to the Schinkel Bridge; after the bridge, you should keep to the centre as the banks are not bordered by railings. The bridge railing is also very low and does not start immediately upon entering the bridge. A visit to the Great Fountain is not recommended for people with impaired vision, as the barriers around the pools and sculptures are very low.
