Neuruppin: Altstadt und Seerunde

Varied circular hiking trail in Neuruppin, Brandenburg. On this circular hiking trail, you can get to know both historic Neuruppin and its beautiful countryside. It starts at the Rheinsberg Gate - you can easily get here by bus or train. The route heads towards the town park via the Soviet Cemetery of Honour and along the banks of the Old Rhin. Via Alt Ruppin and Gildenhall, you walk along the eastern bank and return to the old town centre via the lake dam. You are greeted by "Parzival am See" - a sculpture that symbolises a new beginning and a Neuruppin without a garrison. The St Trinitatis monastery church can also be seen from the other bank. The history of this Neuruppin landmark begins in the 13th century; it was later restored by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The route continues through the rose garden to Schulplatz (if you wish, you can pay a visit to the nearby Neuruppin Museum). Here you will find the old grammar school, which had some famous pupils in its day: master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Theodor Fontane, sculptor Max Wiese and poet Eva Strittmatter all went to school here. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments in the old town centre where you can round off the day and return to the starting point via the green ramparts.
