Fontane-Stadttour - Neuruppin

A walk through the centre of Neuruppin offers a welcome break from the FONTANE.RAD route. The Fontane city tour starts near the Rheinsberg Gate in the memorial grove with the graves of Theodor Fontane's mother and sister and leads back to Neuruppin city centre via a detour to the grave of his son Friedrich. Here, the place of his birth - the Fontane House with the Löwen Pharmacy - is densely packed next to places that shaped his childhood and youth, such as St Mary's Parish Church, the old grammar school and the superintendent's flat, where Fontane lived as a grammar school student. On the city tour, you can also visit places that only became significant for Fontane later, such as the Kühn printing works, the Neuruppin Museum and the Preacher's Widow's House. A printed tour guide and a cycle map of the entire FONTANE.RAD route are available free of charge at the local tourist information centre in Neuruppin, and information boards provide details about individual Fontane locations. The route can be reached by bus and train.
