The route takes you to the magnificent Großer Stechlinsee, which is part of the Rheinsberg Lake District within the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park. The start is near the Stechlinsee Centre. The route heads west, parallel to the lakeside path. The Großer Stechlinsee is the deepest lake in the state of Brandenburg and has excellent water quality. You walk in the green countryside, with a constant view of the water, and can imagine that the former Rheinsberg nuclear power plant is located nearby. This was the smaller of two nuclear power stations in the GDR and was shut down in 1990. The headland on the way there juts far out into the lake.
