The entire Havel Cycle Route covers 374 kilometres from the Mecklenburg Lake District via Berlin to Wittenberge on the Elbe. This tour starts in Berlin and leads to Rathenow. From there it continues via Neuruppin, which is well worth seeing, on the "cycle paths of the historic town centres in the state of Brandenburg" via Rheinsberg Castle to Fürstenberg. From there, you cycle back along the Havel cycle path towards Berlin. The well-signposted Havel Cycle Route leads along mostly quiet side roads or tarmac cycle paths and has hardly any gradients. There are only a few short but tough climbs in Ruppiner Schweiz. An alternative for the return journey from Rathenow is the Havelland cycle path via Nauen to Berlin (approx. 80 km).
