Historically interesting nature trail in Bavaria.
The starting point is at the Villa Rustica. The remains of a Roman estate were found here in 1974. The trail runs parallel to the Maienbach stream across fields to the west, then into the forest, where there are former quarries. Idyllic paths amidst the dense greenery lead to the "Old Castle", of which only the foundation walls can still be seen today. Finally, you reach Utzmemmingen and after a short stretch through the village, you continue on to the Riegelberg in the Geopack Ries. There you will also come across the Ofnethöhlen caves, where Stone Age skull burials have been found. There is evidence that the site was used as early as 3000 - 5000 BC.
