Passau - Inntal Valley - Schardenberg

Beautiful circular route near Passau, Bavaria/Upper Austria (DEU/AUT). A varied and somewhat challenging hike with marvellous views of the Neuburg Forest. From "Passau-Rosenau" railway station, the route leads through forests and across meadows to Fraunhof, with some wonderful views over the Neuburg Forest. The metre rule museum in Fraunhof 3 is also worth a visit. The route then continues on barely used goods roads up to Fronberg. The hiking trail leads to the observation tower (opening times on request), which offers a magnificent view of the Innviertel, the Bavarian Forest and the Alps. This is also the highest point of the hike. A few minutes later, the granite Fatima Chapel with its open-air altar is reached - it is a Celtic place of power. From the Fatima Chapel, it is only a few steps downhill to the centre of Schardenberg. From here, the bus can be taken back to the starting point or the route continues back via Wühr.
