Marterlweg nördlicher Teil

From 1977 to 1979, 4 members of the OWV Vohenstrauß renovated over 100 small field (memorial) paintings in our municipality free of charge. They also created a hiking trail about 11 kilometres long. Peter Staniczek combined this project with a planned teaching project and produced a corresponding leaflet with his pupils. However, after a few years, construction work such as the relocation of the B14 and motorway construction meant that the hiking trail was practically cut in half and was therefore no longer accessible. The markings became increasingly difficult to read, the path became overgrown with undergrowth, harvesters etc. made some parts almost impassable, and so the hiking trail was increasingly forgotten.   In recent years, active, committed OWV members decided to create a new Marterl hiking trail. Due to the road problems mentioned above, the decision was made in favour of a northern (3.2 km) and a southern (5.4 km) route. Both routes were completely re-marked, cleared of undergrowth and made accessible again for everyone.   A chapel, 4 historical boundary stones, a stone cross, a land consolidation monument, a historical culvert, the remains of a former powder magazine, 3 wayside shrines, 3 wayside crosses and 7 field and house crosses now await many interested visitors on both sections of the route.
