Leutstetten and Schlossberg

This historic route leads north of Lake Starnberg through the idyllic Würmtal valley and up the wooded hills near Leutstetten. The trail runs along a varied mixture of paved forest paths, gentle meadow paths and historic sunken paths. A central highlight is the Schlossberg, where the remains of Karlsburg Castle are located, a medieval Wittelsbach castle complex, of which impressive ramparts and moats are still visible today. The damp lowlands of the Leutstettener Moos are an excellent place to observe rare bird species such as the lapwing and various dragonflies, while the old beech trees on the Schlossberg provide a habitat for the black woodpecker. The route has moderate gradients on the ascent to Burgstall, but remains easy to walk on overall and offers a harmonious combination of natural and cultural monuments.
