Kösseine via Rock Labyrinth

Attractive circular hike to the Kösseine. The well-signposted route leads from the Luisenburg car park, which is subject to a charge, along good paths to the summit of the Kösseine. With its double peak, the Kösseine is one of the most scenic mountains in the Fichtelgebirge. The higher of the two is the summit of the Große Kösseine (939 m), which lies with its sea of granite boulders in a 15.8-hectare nature reserve. The smaller Burgsteinfelsen (869 m) impresses with its mighty rock castle, which enjoys the protection status of a natural monument. Not far from the Burgsteinfelsen is the equally impressive rock castle of the Haberstein. The mountain was a popular destination from an early stage because of the clear, wide view in all directions (to the Bavarian Forest, Rhön, Thuringian Forest, Ore Mountains). In 1924 a stone observation tower, the Kösseineturm, was built on the mountain. The tower and the year-round accommodation house right next to it belong to the Fichtelgebirgsverein e. v. . The lodging house is a popular excursion restaurant with accommodation for 21 guests. The way back leads past the Habersteinen. The Habersteine consists of the "Great Haberstein" (848 m) and the "Small Haberstein" (rock castle 200 m west of the "Great Haberstein"). The "GroßeHaberstein" has been accessible by wooden stairs since 1879. From the top, there is a beautiful view of the Röslautal in the direction of Tröstau and Wunsiedel.
