Challenging Alpine crossing between Munich and Lake Garda This crossing of the Alps starts in Munich and ends at Lake Garda. It is slightly shorter than the Munich - Venice dream trail and much less travelled. This makes it a great alternative to the popular Alpine classic. However, the level of fitness required is somewhat higher. There is also a via ferrata section on the route, but this can be bypassed. In terms of scenery, the crossing of the Alps leaves nothing to be desired. Starting with the rugged limestone mountains of the Karwendel, the route continues over the rolling grassy mountains of the Tux Pre-Alps. The hike also leads to the glacier-covered Zillertal Alps, through the Sarntal Alps to the Brenta, which is characterised by dolomite.
