Best trails near Großer Zacken

From the Weilsberg car park, the trail first leads to the Kleiner Feldberg. From there, continue via Grüner Weg, Dornsweg and Waldglasweg to the Großer Zacken viewpoint. The Zacken is a rock formation that is a favourite training spot for mountaineers in particular. There are 13 climbing routes there, which correspond to difficulty levels of 3-6 according to the German Alpine Association. Finally, the fourth highest peak in the Taunus, the Weilsberg, is reached.

Circular route via historic roads and visits to medieval glass furnaces Technically undemanding route with inclines. The section at the Red Cross (before the Hünerweg) is very steep - push! The Hünerweg, Rennstraße and the old Poststraße before the Tenne are historic roads. On the way back, just before Glashütten, the very short detour to the remains of late medieval glass furnaces is worthwhile.

The trail connects the village of Schmitten with the Großer Feldberg. The route runs through a mixed forest dominated by beech and spruce trees. Native wildlife such as roe deer inhabit the surrounding forests. The Weilquelle, the source of the Weil River, is located at the upper section of the trail. The summit area consists of open terrain.
